Over 100 people attended the “City Thinks” Panel Discussion on Urban Education on October 22, hosted by The MacDuffie School. The program, open to the public, was moderated by Frank Robinson, Ph.D, Director of Community Planning at Baystate Health System. Panelists included Dr. Sam Intrator of Smith College’s School of Education, Kathryn Gibson, Head of School at MacDuffie, Kim Lee, V.P. of Advancement at Square One, and two Springfield principals – Kevin McCaskell from Roger L. Putnam Vocational-Technical High School and Shalimar Colon from Brightwood Elementary.
“It was an opportunity for the city’s residents to come together to learn about the many approaches schools in the city are taking to improve children’s lives and their prospects for successful futures,” said Kathryn Gibson, MacDuffie’s Head of School. City Thinks is a program of the Springfield Public Forum and the Springfield City Library, with support from the American International College Honors Program, The MacDuffie School and Mass Humanities. Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Wood for making this program possible.
