International Festival
On Sunday, November 8, MacDuffie celebrated the vast cultural diversity of the Ames Hill boarding program with an International Festival. In tandem with the Admissions Open House, MacDuffie welcomed visiting families to take a trip around the world – in our gym! Featured were: Albania, Brazil, China, Germany, Greece, Jamaica, Japan, Martinique, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Twenty international boarding students worked for months preparing for the International Festival and eagerly and proudly presented their finished product to the visiting public. It was a feast for the senses. While viewing the pictographic slide shows and listening to the traditional music, guests sampled homemade chocolate desserts from Brazil, dumplings from China, and Jamaican beef patties - just to name a few. They played Korean children’s games, created wonderful origami creatures at the Japan table, learned about the evolution of the alphabet and language in Albania, spoke with our Vietnamese student about the topography of his nation, and took home small gifts from Thailand. Several students dressed in traditional costume adding to the beauty of the event.
The International Festival was a huge success, and we thank these students for their hard work and dedication to their countries and the MacDuffie community.
