This year the MacDuffie School will again be walking as a team at the 16th Annual Rays of Hope Walk-a-Walk Toward the Cure of Breast Cancer at Forest Park on October 25. This is the fourth year in a row that MacDuffie has participated. In 2005, juniors Tatiana Rossello-Cornier and Meghan Cote started the MacDuffie team, as this was a very important cause to them. Now the Key Club has taken the event over. Last year over 15,000 local walkers came together in Springfield’s Forest Park, raising over $800,000 through the Baystate Health Foundation. These funds go to the Baystate Regional Cancer Comprehensive Breast Center, as well as to breast health programs at Baystate Medical center in Springfield, Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, and Baystate Mary Lane Hospital in Ware. Last year as a team MacDuffie raised over $1,000 and we expect to raise even more with a higher level of participation. Not only did the walk help the team gain a sense of pride and accomplishment for supporting the Rays of Hope cause, but it was also a very enjoyable time. The team, faces painted with pink ribbons, walked among beautiful pink decorations and balloons with the rest of the generous and enthusiastic members of our community. Overall it was a joyous day seeing all the support this cause has drawn in. Anyone who wants to walk with our team is greatly encouraged to sign up and join us. We will be providing transportation from the school for those who need it. If you can’t walk, please consider donating a few dollars. Each member who is walking will receive a collection envelope to receive donations during the few weeks before the walk. We expect a great turnout this year and thank you in advance for your support and participation! Parents, please feel free to leave any donations with Ms. Martin at the front desk; thank you! |
