* IMPORTANT INFO*
INFLUENZA H1N1(SWINE FLU):

American health officials have declared a public health emergency because of the increasing number of cases of swine flu in the United States.

Many cases of the disease have been confirmed already, and more are expected. Thus far, most cases in the United States have been relatively mild.

It is important for all of us to take measures to prevent spreading the virus to others. We urge all students and parents to take the following precautions to ensure staying healthy:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners (i.e. Purell) are also effective.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • If you get sick, stay home from school or work and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. The school will work with students to help them make up their work.

In these circumstances, it is better to be cautious If you develop flu-like symptoms of fever, aches and pains, sore throat, coughing, trouble breathing, runny nose, or nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting, you should contact your health care provider. Your health care provider will determine whether influenza testing and treatment is needed.
We will keep our students and families advised as more information becomes available about the swine flu outbreak.
