Residential Life

MacDuffie welcomes students from around the world and the United States to our unique residential program. Students from the United States and around the world live in stately, historic homes on the MacDuffie campus. Named after the School’s location on Ames Hill Drive, the Ames Hill Program mirrors living in a small global community.  There are five distinct and unique campus homes each managed by a member of the MacDuffie staff referred to as the House Parent. These adult House Parents along with the students living in that house form a “family,” dining together, talking with and supporting each other, and sharing household responsibilities. This unique and innovative approach to boarding means that students are not alone to maneuver through the challenges of living away from home. They have the support, individual attention, and personal supervision that only a homestyle setting can provide. As an added bonus, this small setting provides the foundation for friendships that last a lifetime.

“The Ames Hill Program has probably been one of the best things that has happened to me in my life.  I’ve created really strong friendships and bonds that will always stay with me no matter how separated we are going to be after graduation." - Alejandra Sanchez, '05

The Ames Hill Boarding Program primarily comprises non-immigrant international students. Students entering grade 9 – 12 may apply to live on campus.  Upon acceptance and enrollment, these students are issued an I-20 form allowing them to apply for an F-1 student visa. Students approved for this visa are able to enter the United States for study and return to their home countries during school vacation times.  Within the last few years, Ames Hill students have come from: Austria, Brazil, China, Ethiopia, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Mexico, Norway, Nigeria, Philippines, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, United States, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

MacDuffie prepares its students for college and successful lives in the modern world. In addition to acquiring knowledge, students practice and refine the skills needed for success as independent learners and leaders. The curriculum includes a challenging college preparatory program including honors, advanced placement, and elective courses. In order to graduate, international students must earn the required credits in English, History, Mathematics, Science and Art.
