"The athletics philosophy here is really about team spirit - the opportunity to learn, the opportunity to work together and to learn from each other." - Ella '05 |
At the Upper School level, students typically can play on a sports team, with or without prior experience in that sport, assuming they are committed to working hard to learn the game and to improving their skills.
Our Athletics program provides students with the opportunity to learn a competitive sport, become part of a cohesive group of students across grade levels, and to compete at progressively higher levels of play over the course of the season. We emphasize the ideals of sportsmanship, respect, commitment, integrity, reliability, and leadership.
Varsity Programs
All athletes are expected to put forth their best effort whenever they are playing for The MacDuffie School. Our first objective is to win, but not at all costs. We will strive to capture each league championship, while upholding our ideals of sportsmanship, respect, commitment, and integrity.
Junior Varsity Programs
JV teams are available for Boys' Soccer, Boys' and Girls' Basketball, Girls' Volleyball, and co-ed Tennis. These programs are geared to augment the varsity programs. Player development is the primary goal of these programs. All athletes should be given a chance to play and improve their skills. While MacDuffie does not expect equal playing time, everyone should have an opportunity to compete if players are committed to practice.
Teams
Athletic options for the fall sports season include Varsity and Junior Varsity Soccer for boys, Varsity Soccer and Varsity Field Hockey for girls, and a co-ed Cross Country team. In 2006, the Boys’ Soccer team captured the CISAC League Championship.
During the winter season, we offer Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball teams for both boys and girls, and Varsity and Junior Varsity Volleyball teams for girls. MacDuffie’s basketball teams have been quite competitive in recent years. The Boys’ Varsity team won the 2002 CISAC League Championship, while the Girls’ team won the title in 2003 and again in 2007.
In the spring, athletes have the opportunity to participate in Boys’ Varsity Baseball and Tennis, Girls’ Varsity Softball, Lacrosse, and Boys' and Girls' Varsity Tennis, as well as a co-ed Junior Varsity Tennis team.
