During this quarter, MacDuffie Seniors enrolled in Honors World Literature have been studying the literature of East Asia, beginning with a review of the three major belief systems that have served as powerful influences shaping the history and culture of the region: Buddhism, Confucianism, and Daoism.  When the class traveled to Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts for a docent-led tour of the East Asian collection May 3, they were able to examine and enjoy first-hand many of the valued artifacts that reflect the region’s artistic legacy.  Prior to the trip, each student became familiar with the Museum’s ‘online’ collection, eventually selecting one…

The First Annual MacDuffie Run for Hope

by Mika Saarela On Saturday, April 28, 2012, almost a hundred runners sprinted onto The MacDuffie School’s picture-perfect cross-country course in beautiful early spring weather. The start of the First Annual MacDuffie Run for Hope represented the culmination of a partnership begun several months previously between the School and Food for the Hungry, a non-profit organization, to benefit education for girls in South Sudan. The 5K race was also the result of a great deal of concerted effort by students, faculty, and staff. Many Cultures Represented at MacDuffie

 Saturday, April 28: Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico and China were among the cultures represented at the annual International Festival at MacDuffie. Each student representing his or her own native culture set up tables in the student center and provided attendees with samples of food, music and clothing. Yu Wakayama ’14 represented Japan and provided food samples of crab and seaweed. Yu also constructed origami as pictured above.
